Volunteering At Henry Kendall Cottage
How do I become a Volunteer?
![]() To volunteer at Henry Kendall Cottage you need to become a member of the Brisbane Water Historical Society, for which a small fee is charged. Becoming a Society member means that you can come to our General Meetings, receive our regular newsletter and you are covered by our insurance when working in the museum complex.
What time commitment is required? We can be very flexible but we do ask that you make a commitment of at least one day a month if you are intending to volunteer for a long term period. We are also happy to accommodate short term volunteers, such as student placements, if an agreed project is to be undertaken.
All new volunteers will receive Induction Training. This will give the volunteer an overview of the practices and policies of the Brisbane Water Historical Society. The majority of skills, site knowledge and experience will be gained on the job, but there will also be opportunities to receive training during the year. If other training is required, it can be provided upon request.
Does the Brisbane Water Historical Society assist with travel cost or reimburse expenses? Unfortunately the Society is unable to refund the majority of costs or expenses that result from your volunteer work with us. We will reimburse any reasonable expenses that relate directly to the activities of the Society, but these must be agreed prior to any purchase.
What do volunteers do at Henry Kendall Cottage? We offer a variety of roles within the museum and can, in the most part, tailor your volunteer work to your particular interests. We require the following:
What qualifications and experience is required? We do not require any specific qualifications or experience. We ask that our volunteers are enthusiastic and committed to the preservation and promotion of Henry Kendall Cottage and Historical Museum. We have found that each volunteer brings their own individual life skills and experiences that only enrich the Society and help to take us forward.
